JUDGE: Kelly Casanova

Kelly Casanova is a two-time US Open Swing Dance Champion, winning first place in both the Classic Swing Division and the Open Jack & Jill Division. Kelly has been teaching West Coast swing locally throughout the San Francisco Bay Area since 1981, and has also spent much of her career traveling throughout the United States competing, teaching, and judging at major national conventions.

Kelly was inducted into the California Swing Dance Hall of Fame in 2006, and was inducted into the National Swing Dance Hall of Fame in 2004. This National Hall of Fame is a lifetime achievement award for swing dancers from around the country representing the various styles of swing. Through dancing, competing, teaching, judging and/or promoting, Hall of Fame inductees have shown distinction in exemplifying the highest standards of leadership, ethical conduct, and local and national service, resulting in a body of work with a far reaching and significant impact on swing dancing. Beyond mere enjoyment and participation, they have given of themselves.

Over the years Kelly has consistently donated her services to a wide variety of charitable organizations and is extremely pleased to support the Raven's fundraising efforts.

JUDGE: Stephen Nordquist

One of Santa Rosa's most cherished traditions, Nordquist's Dance has been teaching teens for more than 30 years. Stephen and his wife, Shirley, took over from Bob and Shirley Burkart, who began teaching Sonoma County teens to dance in the late 1950s.

Every year more than 300 young teens, boys and girls, attend social dance classes with the Nordquists. Classes meet weekly on Tuesday nights October through March at the Santa Rosa Vets Building. This program provides a safe and comfortable environment where junior high and high school students learn so much more than just American Style social ballroom dancing. These classes build the students' confidence and blend in a balance of social behavior, manners, and dress for special occasions.

Stephen teaches the waltz, East Coast swing, West Coast swing, night club two-step, cha-cha, rumba, and tango. He also coaches teams that compete locally.

ALTERNATE JUDGE: John Ross

John Ross began dancing at the age of 16, finding it a healthy way to celebrate life during challenging times.

After finishing college he changed direction and began training to teach dance. By this time he had performed with Buddy Schwimmer's Northern California dance team and had studied with the top competitors in Europe and America. He received his teaching medals and taught his first class in 1982.

John has trained thousands of dancers in Sonoma County and calls his dance home "The Ballroom". Most recently John paired with Jessica Greer (Miss Sonoma County 2012) to win the Judge's Choice and Grand Mirrorball awards at Dancing with the Stars at the Raven in 2012.

Event Producer/Director and Emcee:

Producer and Director: Vera Harvey

In her fifth year as producer and director for Dancing with the Stars at the Raven, Vera is very excited about this year's show. "It promises to be amazing!" Our dance teams have practiced hard to put on a great show and she hopes you enjoy it. Dancing since she was 7, she continues to learn… tap and Argentine tango are next! This year found her dancing in Raven's Hello Dolly. Previous shows include San Diego CCT's Oklahoma (clogger) and Sonoma's fundraiser "Dancing with Our Stars" (PRO).

During breaks from producing and directing, she choreographs, teaches, and performs on four different dance teams. Now happily retired from "work" for the second time, she considers herself more alive than ever through her love of dance and the wonderful people she meets on the dance floor. If you are not a dancer, she encourages you to try a dance class. Remember, life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass, it's about learning to dance in the rain.

Emcee: Ted Williams

Ted Williams has a familiar face and voice, having played roles in movies, TV, and on stage for more than 30 years. He also has hosted many radio shows in California and beyond. Ted started his career as a touring stage actor. A part as a DJ led him to radio stations around San Jose, Ventura, and LA. It was a natural fit for Ted's low voice and crazy personality. Ted then became a TV news anchor and acted in many commercials. In 1988, Ted helped develop a new radio format called K-LOVE that went on the air in Santa Rosa. He continued radio, T,V and film parts, appearing in Hart to Hart, Nowhere to Run, A Walk in the Clouds and many more.

After the events of 9/11, Ted trained in emergency preparedness. He changed careers and became a paramedic on an ambulance and in emergency rooms.

Now Ted has come full circle; he's back on the air at KZST 100.1 FM in Sonoma County on the weekends and continues to do radio and TV commercials. He also owns a CPR/first aid training company, Rescue Ready, and is on faculty at Santa Rosa JC.
